The Charities We Support

Our aim is to raise $100,000 for two very worthy organizations providing vital healthcare to Far North Queenlanders. We have chosen the Royal Flying Doctor Service & Cairns Hospital Emergency Department as our charities.

So why do we want to give these guys some dosh?

Well it is pretty simple really… our group is made up of individuals who have close ties with both services. The majority of us work in the Emergency Department & we work very closely with the guys and girls from RFDS.

Furthermore, the reality is that Cairns is a long way from…. well, everywhere. Just think, to get to us you either have to get in car in and drive 1600km from our state capital of Brisbane or spend a bloody long time on a plane to get from the other side of the world.

Our catchment extends out from the Cairns and Hinterland region up through the Cape York Peninsula & the Torres Straight. Basically we cover an area almost the size of the U.K. - filled with all sorts of spiders, snakes, crocodiles, jelly fish, sharks & drop bears. Our patients use all sorts of transport to reach much needed healthcare - including car, tinny, tractor, plane & helicopter.

So in the big scheme of things, the concept of driving Granny’s car the same distance the big bird in the sky will travel to get us to the UK is really not that out of the ordinary for people in the Far North.

With a growing, as well as ageing, population there is a constant need to upgrade and expand available facilities & resources. In light of the limited funds available & the rapid advances in health care development, it is difficult for these organisations to keep up without external support from groups such as ours. We plan to buy vital equipment for both services to allow continued growth & excellence.

To date almost $4 million dollars have been raised by Mongol Rally participants. The record amount raised by a single team is $90,000. We hope to top this with your help!
